Shirwell Park
Luxury Bed & Breakfast

It's the combination of the warm welcome, attentive service, splendid architecture, elegant interiors and the tranquil position of this fabulous old Manor House, at the center of its 160 acre Listed parkland that sets it apart such a memorable B&B.

It’s so much more than a comfortable night’s sleep and full English breakfast.

Guests are invited to use many of the fine principal rooms, arriving via the historic entrance hall, guests take their meals in the panelled dining room with its domed ceiling and trompe L’oeil decoration – and can relax by the open fire in the Morning Room – full of stately ambience and “feel good” factor.

We offer a choice of 4 bedrooms, each amply furnished with antiques, seasonal fresh flowers from our gardens, wonderfully comfortable beds and their own bathroom. Guests are served a fabulous breakfast prepared with many organic ingredients grown (in season) on the Estate.

The Bedrooms

Our four guest bedrooms are all elegantly decorated, with genuine antique furniture, rugs and pictures, each has its own “en-suite” bath or shower room. All rooms have complimentary Wi-Fi, a premium Bluetooth speaker, comfortable beds with cotton sheets, (an anti-allergy duvet can be arranged with prior notice) Bathrobes for each guest, nice toiletries and a hairdryer. The bedrooms are quite different from each other in size and decoration so it’s worth taking a look to see which one you prefer.

Tea and coffee “stations” are dotted around the house to help yourselves. In order to maintain the tranquillity of the house we do not have televisions in the guest bedrooms. A large digital television is available in the morning room.

The House & Grounds

This illustrious old country house has a long history of entertaining in style, it’s primarily a family home, but throughout its 900 year evolution guests have been made to feel very welcome and comfortable. We strive to continue this sense of “occasion” for our B&B guests.

The private gardens are amongst the best in North Devon, particularly the walled rose garden, formally laid out and a riot of colour and scent in season. The pleasure grounds, some 20 acres in total, comprise woodland walks, a picturesque duck flighting lake, a 250 year old horse chestnut tree, a productive walled vegetable and cut flower garden, recently planted cider and perry orchards as well as many species of rhododendron and azalea flowering in the spring. Ideal for walking off a big breakfast!

Dining & Service

Breakfast and Dinner are served “en Famile” in our beautiful, atmospheric dining room. Using fine china and very much in keeping with what one might expect from a country house.

If you would enjoy a nice relaxed evening meal but don’t fancy driving you are very welcome dine at the house. Although were not that far from good local pubs and restaurants they are not within walking distance. So, perhaps after a lovely day out dining in is a good option. We are not licensed, but you are very welcome to bring your own wine which we can chill or decant for you if required.
